Nine days in Bahia, inland and back to the sea. Six days inland and back, without the cacao coast or the island.
Nine days in Bahia — the city, a national park of tabletop mountains, and the coast south of it.
LANDMARKS
---
Pelourinho
Elevador Lacerda
São Francisco
São Francisco is covered in gold leaf paid for by the sugar economy, which was built on slavery — the museum next door is where that is addressed rather than skirted.
LANDMARKS

Igreja São Francisco
Museu Afro-Brasileiro
Capoeira roda
Lençóis was a diamond town in the nineteenth century and emptied when the diamonds went. The park brought it back.

The Vale do Pati has families farming in it who walk everything in and out. The full traverse is a multi-day trek; this walks the rim above it.

The Poço Azul only turns blue when the sun angle is right, roughly April to September between ten and one. Outside that it is a dark pool.

Eight hours, and the longest transfer of the trip. Itacaré is where the Mata Atlântica comes down to the beach.
LANDMARKS
---

Atlantic forest
Praia da Concha
Southern Bahia is cacao country and the surviving Atlantic forest here largely survived because it was shaded cacao rather than cleared.

There are no vehicles on the island — luggage moves by wheelbarrow, and the beaches are numbered rather than named.

16 meal services named in the itinerary. Vegetarian and vegan covered; Jain, gluten-free and allergies on notice at booking
North-east Brazil done well. The itinerary had room to breathe.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down. Would book with them again.
Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Recommended.
Thank you for travelling with us — glad the route worked out.
