Day 1
Thrill season• Himalayan passes, snow treks and open water Find your next one
Six days of Saxon villages and one absurd mountain road. The same towns on Romania's rail network, which reaches Brasov and Sighisoara well but not Viscri or the Transfagarasan.
Ceausescu's palace is the heaviest building on earth and the second largest administrative one. A fifth of old Bucharest was demolished for it.

Sighisoara is one of the few inhabited medieval citadels left in Europe — people live inside the walls and the school is up a covered wooden stair of a hundred and seventy-five steps.

Ceausescu built it in the 1970s as a military crossing after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. It cost a great many lives and it is only open from about July to October.

Four hours, and the Poenari fortress — which Vlad actually did hold — is on the way if you want the real one.

Day 5
5 breakfasts and 4 dinners across 6 days, at camp. It opens with dinner on day 1 and closes with breakfast on day 6.
9 meal services named in the itinerary. Vegetarian and vegan covered; Jain, gluten-free and allergies on notice at booking
Well paced over 6 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Would send friends their way.
Transylvania done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Good value for what's included.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Would book with them again.
Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Plenty to eat and they were happy to work around a gluten allergy. Would send friends their way.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Simple food, well made, and enough of it. No hesitation recommending them.

Well paced over 6 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones. Good value for what's included.
