The western hoolock gibbon is critically endangered and Lawachara holds one of the few remaining groups. They call at dawn, which is why the start is at six.

Ratargul is one of very few freshwater swamp forests in the world and it is only flooded from about June to September — outside that you walk it.

The hills above Jaflong are Meghalaya, in India, and the river carries their stone down. The quarrying here is heavy and openly visible, and the guides will talk about it if you ask.

The route is beautiful and the pacing was sensible — nobody was rushed on the climb. Good value for what's included.
Did this over 7 days and it was the best walking I've done in years. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Would send friends their way.
Long transfer at both ends that isn't obvious from the listing. Budget a day either side.

You will very likely hear them — the dawn call carries a long way and it is why the walk starts at six. Seeing one is less certain; there are only around sixty in Lawachara and they stay high. Nobody promises a sighting.
