BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Say honestly how much you have ridden
The horse you are given is chosen from your answer. Overstating it puts you on an animal you cannot stop.
Closed shoes with a heel, long trousers
Trainers slip through a stirrup and shorts will rub raw inside a mile.
A helmet is not optional
Most falls from a standing horse are from head height onto stone. Wear what you are given.
The animal is the other half of the trip
Weight limits exist for the horse. Ask about them and about how the animals are kept before you book.

Arkhangai and Khövsgöl on two wheels is the way to see it. No complaints about the organisation. Good value for what's included.

Route planning was the strong point — long days, but the stops were in the right places. Would book with them again.

Route planning was the strong point — long days, but the stops were in the right places. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones. Recommended.

Machines were well maintained and the daily briefings were short and useful. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. No hesitation recommending them.

Machines were well maintained and the daily briefings were short and useful. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Plenty to eat and they were happy to work around a gluten allergy. Recommended.

Questions people ask

Not expertly, but six hours a day on a Mongolian horse over rough ground is genuinely hard on a beginner, and there is no vehicle alternative once you are in the taiga. If you have never ridden, the eight-day version is the honest choice and both operators will say so.
