You will be in cold water for hours
Wetsuit thickness is the difference between a good day and shivering through the last three drops. Ask what is provided and how it fits.
Jumps are optional, the descent is not
Every jump has a walk-around or an abseil beside it. Once you are in the canyon, though, the only way out is down it.
Water levels decide the route
A canyon that is a walk in October is unrunnable after rain. Operators cancel for flow, and that call is not negotiable.
Tell them if you cannot swim
Most canyons need only floating in a buoyancy aid, but the guide has to know before the first pool, not at it.

Around eight degrees, glacier-fed, whatever the air temperature is doing. You wear a 5mm wetsuit with hood and the guides watch for people going quiet — that is what cold looks like before shivering starts.
