Seven days ski touring the classic high-level route from the Mont Blanc massif to the Matterhorn. Tonight is the avalanche drill and it is not a formality.

A pre-dawn start because the snow bridges over the crevasses are firm at four in the morning and soft by ten.

The Matterhorn comes into view about two hours before Zermatt does, and it is the reason people finish this route rather than stop at Arolla.

Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it.
Thanks for writing this up. We've passed your note to the team.
Conditions were marginal and I'd have preferred them to say so before we set out. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing.

Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Tents were warmer than expected and the camp was set up before we arrived. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it.
Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones.
Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Would book with them again.
Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Worth every rupee.

Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Sleeping under canvas at that height is cold work and the kit was up to it. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude.
Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Would send friends their way.
Confident off-piste on any slope up to about forty degrees, in variable snow, with a heavy pack, for six hours. It is not about steepness — it is about skiing breakable crust at the end of a long day without falling. Operators ask what you have skied and turn people down.
