BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Distances are short, the standing is long
Two or three hours mostly on your feet on hard ground. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.
The route is public space
Markets, lanes and places of worship are where people live and pray. Ask before photographing anyone and cover up where others do.
Cash for the small things
Tea, a fritter, an entry ticket. Card acceptance in old quarters is patchy at best.
Ask what the group size will be
A walking tour of six and one of thirty are different products at the same price. It is a fair question.

Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing.

Hotels were a step below what I expected for the price. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Accommodation was a notch better than the price suggested. No hesitation recommending them.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Would send friends their way.

Questions people ask

In October, November and April, most mornings. In the monsoon, almost never. Tiger Hill takes several hundred vehicles on a clear morning in season, which is why the 4 AM start is not optional.
