Check the altitude before you book the flight
Leh is at 3,500 m and you arrive there by aeroplane in an hour from sea level, which is the fastest ascent most people will ever make. Two full days doing nothing on arrival is the standard advice and it is not optional because you are on holiday rather than a trek.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed.

Well paced over 8 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Rooms were comfortable and the locations meant we could walk most evenings. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Would send friends their way.
