BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Distances are short, the standing is long
Two or three hours mostly on your feet on hard ground. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.
The route is public space
Markets, lanes and places of worship are where people live and pray. Ask before photographing anyone and cover up where others do.
Cash for the small things
Tea, a fritter, an entry ticket. Card acceptance in old quarters is patchy at best.
Ask what the group size will be
A walking tour of six and one of thirty are different products at the same price. It is a fair question.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found.

Upper Austria done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Would send friends their way.

Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Recommended.

Well paced over 6 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Meals were good throughout and the vegetarian options weren't an afterthought. Recommended.

Questions people ask

Between about ten and four, yes — it takes a very large number of day visitors for a village of under 800 people, and the residents have said so publicly. Staying the night is the entire answer: the coaches leave and the place becomes a village again.
