BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Check the altitude before you book the flight
Leh is at 3,500 m and you arrive there by aeroplane in an hour from sea level, which is the fastest ascent most people will ever make. Two full days doing nothing on arrival is the standard advice and it is not optional because you are on holiday rather than a trek.
A holiday itinerary still has hard days in it
Pass crossings by road, long transfers and early starts are normal on these trips. Read the day plan rather than the brochure photograph.
Ask what the group size actually is
A group holiday is priced on filling a coach. It is a fair question and the answer changes the trip completely.
The places you pass through are lived in
Ask before photographing people and houses, take your shoes off where others do, and buy locally where you can. A holiday moves through more communities in a week than a trek does.

Hotels were a step below what I expected for the price. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Good value for what's included.

Rome to Venice done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it. Good value for what's included.

Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for. Crew were professional without being stiff about it.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Solid operator.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. Crew were professional without being stiff about it.

Rome to Venice done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Good value for what's included.

Questions people ask

Yes, and it is the main thing an operator adds here. The Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, the Uffizi and the Duomo cupola are all timed, and all four sell out days to weeks ahead between April and October.
