BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Distances are short, the standing is long
Two or three hours mostly on your feet on hard ground. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.
The route is public space
Markets, lanes and places of worship are where people live and pray. Ask before photographing anyone and cover up where others do.
Cash for the small things
Tea, a fritter, an entry ticket. Card acceptance in old quarters is patchy at best.
Ask what the group size will be
A walking tour of six and one of thirty are different products at the same price. It is a fair question.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Accommodation was a notch better than the price suggested. Crew were professional without being stiff about it. Recommended.

Peninsular Malaysia done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Accommodation was a notch better than the price suggested. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Solid operator.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Rooms were comfortable and the locations meant we could walk most evenings. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves.

Peninsular Malaysia done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it. Would send friends their way.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down. No hesitation recommending them.

Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.

Questions people ask

Penang has thousands of stalls and the difference between a good one and a mediocre one is not visible to a visitor. A guide who knows which corner has been doing char kway teow for forty years is the whole value, and it is the thing most people say they would repeat.
