Temple Crag Hostel
Hostel, homestay or tent, shared
4 days, planned by Sleeper Class Co.
The same sandstone the Chalukyas carved temples into in the sixth century is what you climb — and the crags are directly above the monuments.

Badami's sandstone is bolted, well-travelled and grippy, with routes from a beginner 5a upward. The middle of the day is too hot to climb and everybody stops.

The plateau routes are longer and more exposed, and the bouldering under the fort is where most people end up staying.

Aihole and Pattadakal are where the Chalukyas experimented their way from cave to free-standing temple, and both northern and southern styles stand side by side.

“The same routes by train and guesthouse”
Overnight trains, guesthouses and no private cars. Slower and a fraction of the price, and the trains are half the point.
Hotels were a step below what I expected for the price. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.
Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.
Well paced over 4 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Good value for what's included.
Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.
Well paced over 4 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. Would send friends their way.
Karnataka done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. No hesitation recommending them.
No. There are enough easy bolted routes at Badami to learn on, and the guide belays. If you have climbed indoors you will be comfortable within an hour.
