The station is on the far shore and a boat meets every train. It is the right way to arrive and the only one that shows you the village from the water.

The oldest known salt mine in the world, worked since the Bronze Age. The ossuary holds over 600 painted skulls, stacked because the graveyard ran out of room.

The Gosausee circuit is flat, two hours, and holds the Dachstein reflected in it the whole way round.

The Schafbergbahn has run since 1893 and is the steepest rack railway in Austria. From the top you can count most of the lakes at once.

Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Hotels were clean and central, which saved a lot of time. No hesitation recommending them.

Between about ten and four, yes — it takes a very large number of day visitors for a village of under 800 people, and the residents have said so publicly. Staying the night is the entire answer: the coaches leave and the place becomes a village again.
