BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Dive within your certification
A card states a depth and a set of conditions. Going beyond either on holiday, with an instructor who has known you for an hour, is how divers get hurt.
Never hold your breath
The first rule of breathing compressed air, and the one that kills people who forget it. Breathe continuously on every ascent.
No flying for at least eighteen hours
After multiple dives, longer. Book the flight home with a clear day in between, not the same evening.
Touch nothing
Coral takes decades to grow and breaks in a moment, and a great deal of what looks inert is alive. Buoyancy control is not just a skill, it is how you avoid destroying what you came to see.

Kit was in good condition, which matters more than people realise. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Recommended.

Visibility was excellent and the boat ran on time every morning. Would send friends their way.

Kit was in good condition, which matters more than people realise. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Simple food, well made, and enough of it. Would send friends their way.

Boat was crowded. Fine for the diving, less fine for the surface intervals.

Visibility was excellent and the boat ran on time every morning. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. Plenty to eat and they were happy to work around a gluten allergy. Recommended.

Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.

Questions people ask

Mixed, and worse than it was. The Great Barrier Reef has been through several mass bleaching events since 2016 and inshore sites in particular have suffered. The outer ribbon reefs this trip visits are in materially better shape, which is why it goes the extra two hours. It is still an extraordinary reef and it is also a damaged one, and you should expect to see both.
