Mawmluh has chest-deep water in the river passage and a layer in its floor that helped define a geological age. You wade through the Meghalayan.

The bridges are living ficus roots trained across the rivers over decades. Going down is three thousand steps and coming back is the same three thousand.

The Shnongrim ridge holds more surveyed cave passage than anywhere else in India and expeditions are still finding new sections.

Over thirty kilometres of surveyed passage. The main trunk is called the Aircraft Hangar and the name is not an exaggeration.

Umroi has flights to Kolkata and Delhi; Guwahati is three hours further and has more.

Overnight trains, guesthouses and no private cars. Slower and a fraction of the price, and the trains are half the point.

There are squeeze sections and there is chest-deep water. Day two is a lit walk-through cave specifically so that anyone who discovers they cannot do this discovers it on day two rather than four hours into Liat Prah. Nobody is talked into continuing.
