Solang Camp
Hostel, homestay or tent, shared
6 days, planned by Stonefoot Trails
Nobody goes into the backcountry here without a transceiver search drill first, and the guides run it until everyone finds a buried beacon inside three minutes.
LANDMARKS
---
Solang
Manali
An easy first tour to see how everyone moves. The guide picks the aspect from the morning's snowpack, not from the plan.
LANDMARKS
---
Dhundi
Beas valley
Hanuman Tibba
A thousand metres up on skins is four to five hours. The descent takes forty minutes and that is the trade.
LANDMARKS
---
Beas Kund bowl
Shitidhar
Friendship Peak
Trees are where you go when the alpine slopes are loaded or the visibility has gone. They are also better skiing than people expect.
LANDMARKS
---
Hamta
Deo Tibba
Birch and pine
The Chandrakhani ridge gives the longest single descent of the week, down towards Naggar with the Malana valley on the other side.
LANDMARKS

Chandrakhani Pass
Naggar
Malana valley
The debrief matters — the guides log what the snowpack did all week and it is worth sitting through.

“The same Himalayan routes in dorm tents and shared transport”
The budget half of the same market. Dorm tents, shared jeeps and no porters unless you hire one — and the same leaders on the hill.
Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. The campsites were well chosen — sheltered, and close enough to water. Would book with them again.
Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. No hesitation recommending them.

Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.
Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Recommended.
Thank you for travelling with us — glad the route worked out.
Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Sleeping under canvas at that height is cold work and the kit was up to it. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it. Good value for what's included.
Conditions were marginal and I'd have preferred them to say so before we set out.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.

Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.

Confident off-piste on a red run in variable snow. Touring is not a way to learn to ski — the descents are ungroomed, sometimes breakable crust, and there is no piste to bail onto.
