Seven days, three and a half thousand metres down. Seven days with both flights, the community lodge in Madidi and three nights on the Yacuma.
Seven days from the highest capital in the world down to the Amazon basin — about three and a half thousand metres of descent in a fifty-minute flight.

The flight is a nineteen-seat aircraft and cancels for weather often. The road alternative is eighteen hours on the old Yungas route.

Madidi runs from 200 m to nearly 6,000 m and is among the most biodiverse protected areas on earth. The lodge is owned and run by the San José de Uchupiamonas community.
LANDMARKS
---
Madidi
Tuichi river
Primary rainforest
Rainforest hides almost everything — you hear far more than you see, and the guides read tracks and calls rather than pointing at animals.

Macaws
Peccary
Night frogs
The pampas are seasonally flooded savannah and the wildlife is on the banks rather than hidden in canopy. Caiman, capybara, turtles and pink river dolphins.
LANDMARKS
---
Río Yacuma
Pampas
Caiman
Capybara
Swimming with the dolphins is offered everywhere here and both operators decline it — the animals are wild, the water holds caiman, and the practice stresses them.
LANDMARKS
---
Pink river dolphin
Anaconda grass
Yacuma
Leave a night in La Paz before any international flight — the Rurrenabaque service cancels often enough that connecting the same day is a bad idea.

Excellent sightings and the guides clearly knew the area. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.

Beni was quieter than I expected and the camp was comfortable. Lodges along the way were simple and comfortable enough after a long day. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.

Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.

Sightings were thin on our dates, which is luck, but the drives felt rushed. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.

Early starts, but that's where the wildlife is. Well run. The teahouses were warm and the beds were fine after eight hours walking. Would book with them again.
