Top Highlights

  • Odori ParkSapporo invented miso ramen and takes about five metres of snow a year, which is why the whole city is built with covered arcades.
  • Otaru canalOtaru got rich on herring, and the stone warehouses along the canal are what is left of it.
  • Niseko AnnupuriNiseko gets roughly fifteen metres of snow a season off the Sea of Japan, and it is dry enough to be genuinely famous for it.

Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Solid operator.

Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Good value for what's included.

Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Good value for what's included.

Conditions were marginal and I'd have preferred them to say so before we set out. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.
