BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Wear the helmet
It is the difference between a bad day and a serious one, and every rental has them. Most skiing injuries happen at low speed to beginners on easy ground.
Take the lesson before the slope
An hour of instruction is what turns a first day from falling over into skiing. Learning to stop and to fall safely, in that order, is the whole of it.
Stay inside the markers
Marked pistes are patrolled, checked and avalanche-controlled. The snow on the other side of the rope is none of those things, whatever it looks like.
The sun is stronger than it feels
Snow reflects most of the UV back at you and cold air hides the burn. Sunglasses or goggles rated for UV, and sunscreen on the underside of your chin as well as the top of your face.
Know when the last lift goes down
Being on the wrong side of a mountain at dusk in winter is a genuine emergency, not an inconvenience. Ask at the top station, not at the bottom.

Snow was good and the group was kept to a sensible size. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Solid operator.

Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Good value for what's included.

Instruction was solid and the days were well judged for conditions. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Good value for what's included.

Conditions were marginal and I'd have preferred them to say so before we set out. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.
