BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Distances are short, the standing is long
Two or three hours mostly on your feet on hard ground. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.
The route is public space
Markets, lanes and places of worship are where people live and pray. Ask before photographing anyone and cover up where others do.
Cash for the small things
Tea, a fritter, an entry ticket. Card acceptance in old quarters is patchy at best.
Ask what the group size will be
A walking tour of six and one of thirty are different products at the same price. It is a fair question.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it. Recommended.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Good value for what's included.

Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Worth every rupee.

Well paced over 8 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. No hesitation recommending them.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Worth every rupee.

Questions people ask

Sometimes. Access is governed by sulphur dioxide readings at the rim and the gate closes for days or months at a time — it has been shut for years in the past. Kusasenri and the Komezuka cone are the substitute and are a good day in themselves. No operator can promise the crater.
