BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Distances are short, the standing is long
Two or three hours mostly on your feet on hard ground. Comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.
The route is public space
Markets, lanes and places of worship are where people live and pray. Ask before photographing anyone and cover up where others do.
Cash for the small things
Tea, a fritter, an entry ticket. Card acceptance in old quarters is patchy at best.
Ask what the group size will be
A walking tour of six and one of thirty are different products at the same price. It is a fair question.

Myanmar done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Accommodation was a notch better than the price suggested. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Would send friends their way.

Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for.

Well paced over 8 days with enough free time to not feel herded. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude.

Myanmar done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Rooms were comfortable and the locations meant we could walk most evenings. No hesitation recommending them.

Questions people ask

That is a judgment you should make deliberately rather than one we will make sound simple. Since the 2021 coup several governments have advised against travel, parts of the country are not accessible, and some money spent there reaches the military. Against that, local guesthouse and guide families have lost their income almost entirely. Both operators use locally owned guesthouses and independent guides, avoid state-run hotels and services, and will tell you plainly which is which. Read your own government's advisory first — if it says do not travel, your insurance will likely not cover you.
