11 days, planned by The Carburettor Club
Eleven days riding from 1,585 m to 5,359 m and back down. Today is paperwork, a shakedown ride and an early night.

The rock-cut Maitreya at Mulbekh is eighth-century and stands nine metres above the road you are riding on.

Mulbekh Maitreya
Namika La

Arriving overland from Srinagar means you have gained altitude gradually, which is the entire argument for riding this direction. The rest day is still not optional.
LANDMARKS
---
Leh Palace
Shanti Stupa
Main Bazaar
Fifteen minutes at the top is plenty. The sign overstates the height and the oxygen does not care either way.
LANDMARKS
---
Khardung La
Diskit monastery
Hunder dunes
Bactrian camels
The Shyok route is broken riverbed for long stretches and floods without warning in the afternoon. That is why it is a morning ride.
LANDMARKS
---
Shyok river
Durbuk
Pangong Tso
Pangong at sunrise is worth the cold night. The lake is 134 km long and most of it is in Tibet.
LANDMARKS

Sarchu is 4,290 m and it is the hardest night of the trip. Nobody sleeps well and everyone says so.

---
Tanglang La
More plains
Gata loops
Sarchu
The Atal tunnel took Rohtang out of this ride in 2020 and cut hours off the day. Older itineraries still route over the pass.
LANDMARKS

Suraj Tal
Jispa
Atal Tunnel
After nine days above 3,000 m, Manali feels like sea level. It is not.
LANDMARKS
---
Old Manali
Hadimba temple
Vashisht springs
Most riders take the overnight Volvo to Delhi. Bhuntar flies, weather permitting, which in the hills means often not.

“Motorcycle expeditions with a mechanic, spares and a luggage vehicle”
Founded by a workshop rather than a travel agency, which is why the mechanic is not an upsell. Every departure carries spares for the bikes it puts on the road.
11 days of proper riding. The support vehicle was never far when someone needed it. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Would book with them again.
Days were longer than advertised and we arrived after dark more than once. Crew were professional without being stiff about it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.
Route planning was the strong point — long days, but the stops were in the right places. Hotels were clean and central, which saved a lot of time. Solid operator.
Kashmir on two wheels is the way to see it. No complaints about the organisation. Accommodation was a notch better than the price suggested. Good value for what's included.
Days were longer than advertised and we arrived after dark more than once. The team read the group well and adjusted without making a thing of it.
Thanks for writing this up. We've passed your note to the team.

Thank you for travelling with us — glad the route worked out.
11 days of proper riding. The support vehicle was never far when someone needed it. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones.
11 days of proper riding. The support vehicle was never far when someone needed it. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down. Worth every rupee.
Srinagar is 1,585 m and Manali is 2,050 m, but the Manali side throws you over Baralacha La at 4,890 m on the second day. Riding west to east you sleep at 2,676 m, then 3,500 m with a rest day, before anything above 5,000 m. It is the same road and a completely different risk profile.
