Delhi has been the capital of at least seven successive cities, and the ruins of most of them are still standing somewhere in it.

The Taj is closed on Fridays. Late afternoon has better light and thinner crowds than midday, and the marble changes colour through the hour.

“The same routes by train and guesthouse”
Overnight trains, guesthouses and no private cars. Slower and a fraction of the price, and the trains are half the point.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Nothing fancy about the beds, and nothing wrong with them either. Plenty to eat and they were happy to work around a gluten allergy.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Worth every rupee.
Well paced over 6 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Recommended.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Crew were professional without being stiff about it. Worth every rupee.
Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Would book with them again.
Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.

Yes, and it is the main reason this is six days rather than five. Sunrise and late afternoon are genuinely different buildings — the marble is translucent and takes colour from the sky. Midday is the worst of both.
