Temple Crag Lodge
Hotel or lodge, twin sharing
4 days, planned by The Monsoon Ledger
The same sandstone the Chalukyas carved temples into in the sixth century is what you climb — and the crags are directly above the monuments.
LANDMARKS
---
Badami cave temples
Agastya lake
Bhutanatha temples
Badami's sandstone is bolted, well-travelled and grippy, with routes from a beginner 5a upward. The middle of the day is too hot to climb and everybody stops.
LANDMARKS
---
Temple Crag
Agastya lake
Badami fort
The plateau routes are longer and more exposed, and the bouldering under the fort is where most people end up staying.
LANDMARKS
---
Ganesh Plateau
Badami fort
Sandstone boulders
Aihole and Pattadakal are where the Chalukyas experimented their way from cave to free-standing temple, and both northern and southern styles stand side by side.
LANDMARKS

Pattadakal
Aihole
Durga temple
Virupaksha

Well paced over 4 days with enough free time to not feel herded. The teahouses were warm and the beds were fine after eight hours walking.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.
Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Lodges along the way were simple and comfortable enough after a long day. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Would book with them again.
Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for. Crew were professional without being stiff about it.
Thanks for writing this up. We've passed your note to the team.
Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. The teahouses were warm and the beds were fine after eight hours walking. The cooking was a genuine surprise — better than most places we'd have picked ourselves. Would book with them again.
Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.
Thank you for travelling with us — glad the route worked out.
Karnataka done well. The itinerary had room to breathe.
Karnataka done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Worth every rupee.
Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.
Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. Worth every rupee.
No. There are enough easy bolted routes at Badami to learn on, and the guide belays. If you have climbed indoors you will be comfortable within an hour.
