Seven days, three and a half thousand metres down. Four days on the pampas only, which is where the visible wildlife is, skipping the forest.

Madidi runs from 200 m to nearly 6,000 m and is among the most biodiverse protected areas on earth. The lodge is owned and run by the San José de Uchupiamonas community.

Rainforest hides almost everything — you hear far more than you see, and the guides read tracks and calls rather than pointing at animals.

The pampas are seasonally flooded savannah and the wildlife is on the banks rather than hidden in canopy. Caiman, capybara, turtles and pink river dolphins.

Swimming with the dolphins is offered everywhere here and both operators decline it — the animals are wild, the water holds caiman, and the practice stresses them.

Leave a night in La Paz before any international flight — the Rurrenabaque service cancels often enough that connecting the same day is a bad idea.

Early starts, but that's where the wildlife is. Well run. Dorms were tidy and the common areas were where the group actually gelled. Crew were professional without being stiff about it. Would book with them again.

Early starts, but that's where the wildlife is. Well run. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Worth every rupee.
Excellent sightings and the guides clearly knew the area.
Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.
Beni was quieter than I expected and the camp was comfortable. Hostel nights are basic but clean, and that's what the price says. Solid operator.
Sightings were thin on our dates, which is luck, but the drives felt rushed. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on another trip.
Excellent sightings and the guides clearly knew the area. Food was plentiful and hot, which counts for a lot at altitude. Good value for what's included.
Excellent sightings and the guides clearly knew the area. Plenty to eat and they were happy to work around a gluten allergy. No hesitation recommending them.
