Tehri lake
Uttarkashi
Bhagirathi
Gangotri is at 3,100 m and the afternoon is deliberately empty — you sleep here before walking anywhere.
LANDMARKS

Gangotri temple
Bhagirathi gorge
Surya Kund
The Bhagirathi peaks appear about an hour before Bhojbasa and dominate everything from then on.

Gaumukh — the cow's mouth — is the snout of the Gangotri glacier and the source of the Bhagirathi. The climb to Tapovan above it is loose, steep and the crux of the trek.
LANDMARKS
---
Gaumukh
Gangotri glacier
Tapovan meadow
Shivling
Shivling rises 2,000 m straight off the meadow. Sadhus overwinter in caves here, at 4,463 m, which is difficult to believe until you meet one.

Eighteen kilometres down, and the descent off Tapovan is where people slip. Poles help more today than on any other day.

“The same Himalayan routes in dorm tents and shared transport”
The budget half of the same market. Dorm tents, shared jeeps and no porters unless you hire one — and the same leaders on the hill.
Uttarakhand in the right season is something else, and the team knew exactly where to camp. Tents were warmer than expected and the camp was set up before we arrived. No hesitation recommending them.
The route is beautiful and the pacing was sensible — nobody was rushed on the climb.
Second trek with this operator and they've kept the standard up. Guides answered every question, including the daft ones.
Second trek with this operator and they've kept the standard up. Camp was pitched and the kitchen going by the time we walked in each evening. Solid operator.
Uttarakhand in the right season is something else, and the team knew exactly where to camp. Sleeping under canvas at that height is cold work and the kit was up to it. Whoever planned the days knew what they were doing. Recommended.
Well organised from the pickup onwards. The daily distances were honest about what they'd be. Never went hungry, and the tea appeared exactly when it was needed. Recommended.
The route is beautiful and the pacing was sensible — nobody was rushed on the climb. Worth every rupee.
Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.
Second trek with this operator and they've kept the standard up. Crew were professional without being stiff about it. Recommended.
Gangotri National Park limits entry to about a hundred and fifty people a day to protect the glacier approach, and permits are named and checked. They must be arranged in advance at Uttarkashi.
