BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Check the altitude before you book the flight
Leh is at 3,500 m and you arrive there by aeroplane in an hour from sea level, which is the fastest ascent most people will ever make. Two full days doing nothing on arrival is the standard advice and it is not optional because you are on holiday rather than a trek.
A holiday itinerary still has hard days in it
Pass crossings by road, long transfers and early starts are normal on these trips. Read the day plan rather than the brochure photograph.
Ask what the group size actually is
A group holiday is priced on filling a coach. It is a fair question and the answer changes the trip completely.
The places you pass through are lived in
Ask before photographing people and houses, take your shoes off where others do, and buy locally where you can. A holiday moves through more communities in a week than a trek does.

Everything was arranged properly — transfers, entries, all of it. The teahouses were warm and the beds were fine after eight hours walking. Worth every rupee.

Assam done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Would send friends their way.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Would send friends their way.

Too much time on the coach and not enough at the places we'd come for. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down.

Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.

Well paced over 4 days with enough free time to not feel herded.

Questions people ask

The Brahmaputra floods the park almost every year — that flooding is what maintains the grassland — and the animals move to the highlands across the highway. The park shuts from May to October.
