BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
Check the altitude before you book the flight
Leh is at 3,500 m and you arrive there by aeroplane in an hour from sea level, which is the fastest ascent most people will ever make. Two full days doing nothing on arrival is the standard advice and it is not optional because you are on holiday rather than a trek.
A holiday itinerary still has hard days in it
Pass crossings by road, long transfers and early starts are normal on these trips. Read the day plan rather than the brochure photograph.
Ask what the group size actually is
A group holiday is priced on filling a coach. It is a fair question and the answer changes the trip completely.
The places you pass through are lived in
Ask before photographing people and houses, take your shoes off where others do, and buy locally where you can. A holiday moves through more communities in a week than a trek does.

About Pumice & Pine

Every itinerary is built around where you sleep rather than where you go, because in the Andes that is the only decision that matters.

Canal done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. Would send friends their way.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Recommended.

Appreciate the honest feedback; we're looking at the pacing on that section.

Good mix of the obvious things and a few places we'd never have found. Rooms were comfortable and the locations meant we could walk most evenings. The lead was calm and knew when to slow the group down. Solid operator.

Well paced over 7 days with enough free time to not feel herded. Simple food, well made, and enough of it.

Thank you. We've taken the point about the transfer and are reviewing it.

Canal done well. The itinerary had room to breathe. No complaints about any of the hotels — all of them well placed. Meals were good throughout and the vegetarian options weren't an afterthought. Good value for what's included.

Questions people ask

Guna Yala is autonomous. The Guna set entry fees per island, decide what is built and prohibit photographing people without permission — and enforce all of it. Accommodation is basic cabins with no hot water and often no electricity after dark.
