BEFORE YOU GO · CAUTIONARY DETAILS
A campsite is not a hotel with canvas
Shared washrooms, no room service and lights out with the generator. Read what the operator provides and assume everything else is yours to bring.
Ask what the ground is
A pitch on grass, on sand and on a river bank sleep completely differently, and it decides whether your own mat is enough.
Weather is the whole experience
There is no lobby to retreat into. A wet weekend under canvas is still a wet weekend, so check the forecast and pack for the worse half of it.
Fires and rubbish are regulated
Most campsites sit inside a forest division or panchayat land with rules about both. Carry your waste out; the operator will tell you where fires are allowed.

Sightings were thin on our dates, which is luck, but the drives felt rushed.

Early starts, but that's where the wildlife is. Well run. No hesitation recommending them.

Early starts, but that's where the wildlife is. Well run. Tents were warmer than expected and the camp was set up before we arrived.

Excellent sightings and the guides clearly knew the area. Sleeping under canvas at that height is cold work and the kit was up to it. Simple food, well made, and enough of it. Would book with them again.

Gujarat was quieter than I expected and the camp was comfortable. The campsites were well chosen — sheltered, and close enough to water. Worth every rupee.

Questions people ask

The Rann floods in the monsoon and stays wet into October; by March it is over 35 °C on an unshaded salt flat. The white crust and the tolerable weather coincide for about four months.
