What the course actually is

The full P1 syllabus. You spend the first week on the training hill doing ground handling and low flights until launching is boring, and only then go to Billing. Most people fly solo from the high take-off around day nine.

Requirements & eligibility

Age: 16 and over
  • Weight between 50 and 95 kg
  • No heart condition, epilepsy, or condition affecting balance or consciousness
  • Able to run a few steps on uneven ground — that is how a launch starts
  • Medical declaration, countersigned by a doctor if you are over 60

  • Do you have a heart condition, epilepsy, or anything affecting your balance or consciousness? — this course requires “No

Safety & Field Protocol

  • Nobody flies from Billing until they can launch and land reliably on the training hill. That gate is not negotiable and it is why this course is fourteen days rather than five
  • Every student flight is flown under radio contact with an instructor at take-off and one in the landing field
  • Reserve parachutes are repacked every six months and the log is available on request
  • Flying stops for wind above 20 km/h, for cross-wind on take-off, and for any instability the instructor does not like the look of

If plans change

Cancellation

Full refund up to 21 days before the start. 50% between 21 and 7 days. No refund inside 7 days. If we ground you on medical grounds after assessing you on day one, you are refunded in full.

Weather

Bir flies most reliably from October to June. This is a weather-dependent course and the fourteen days include contingency: if we cannot complete your high flights in the window, you return within twelve months at no extra course fee.
